Plans for six covered padel courts at Surbiton Town Sports Club remain under consideration by Kingston Council.

The application, reference 26/01009/FUL, proposes courts with lighting, fencing and canopies, alongside a clubhouse and a bike rack at the site in Riverhill Gardens, Worcester Park, KT4 7QB.

The council’s live planning register showed the application as pending consideration when checked on 28 October 2026. It records the application as received on 12 May and validated on 8 July. That status does not amount to planning permission.

    What Smash Padel is proposing

Operator Smash Padel says it has submitted plans for six panoramic courts under canopy covers at the sports club, which it describes as having on-site parking and an established pavilion.

The company says its planned programme would include introductory sessions, beginner coaching, social mix-ins, leagues and junior activities. It also says it intends to offer a free introduction when the venue opens.

Its Surbiton page currently invites residents to register their interest for updates. It does not give an opening date or local court-hire prices. The proposal is for canopy-covered courts, rather than a confirmed fully enclosed indoor venue.

Helping beginners find a regular game

For people taking up padel, the programme around a court can be as important as the booking itself. A coached introduction can explain the underarm serve and glass-wall rebounds, while organised sessions can help players who do not already have a group of four.

    Lewis Remington of Padel Holidays:

“Padel gives people a sociable way to start a new sport, but a court on its own is only part of the picture. Beginner sessions, straightforward booking and help finding people of a similar level can make the difference between trying it once and making it a regular habit. Covered courts can also make it easier to plan games around work and the British weather.”

Surbiton Town Sports Club should not be confused with Surbiton Racket & Fitness Club in Berrylands. The latter is an existing venue which currently lists five floodlit padel courts, member court bookings, coaching and social sessions.

Where residents can follow the plans

The application documents are available through Kingston Council’s planning register under reference 26/01009/FUL. Residents can use that record to check the drawings, supporting information and any subsequent decision.

Smash’s interest-registration page provides a separate route for updates from the operator. Until permission, a timetable and booking arrangements are confirmed, the proposed courts should not be treated as an existing place to play.
