Kingston upon Thames is a charming riverside town on the banks of the Thames and only a 25-minute train journey from central London. The place has a lot to offer to keep family entertained during summer especially the notable Kingston Regatta. This event provides a brilliant summer weekend.

Kingston Regatta

The Kingston Regatta, a majestic river bank celebration, has been contested in the Thames since 1857. It is one of Kingston’s most important and oldest sports events, and also the showcase of the summer sports calendar.

The event consists of two days of fun, challenging competition between rowing clubs, UK universities such as Oxford and Cambridge including several colleges in London and the South East.

The regatta attracts more than 2,200 athletes (1,500 are under 18) and 720 crews competing in more than 320 contests over the two days. Adult club racing happens on Saturday, while athletes aged between 12-15 years will be on competing on Sunday.

2020 Event

The Kingston Regatta 2020 will be held on Saturday 11th of July until Sunday 12th of July 2020.

Racing will commence at 9:00 a.m. and end at 19:00 each day.

On Saturday, the 1000-meter course passes between Raven’s Ait and ends on the Kingston Bridge opposite the Gazebo.

The participating clubs will compete for the title “Victor Ludorum” and a Victor Ludorum trophy. And, the winning club of each day will be rewarded with a 3-pint tankard.

All the winners of the listed events will be awarded 1 pint of lidded tankards, except for Diamond Jubilee Sprint Eights winner, which will receive a quart tankards.

The facilities provided are seats, shades, and commentary. Refreshments and sumptuous food are available from the stalls within the enclosure.

The entry to the Kingston Regatta is £2 per person.

Charity Luncheon

For the 10th year in the Kingston Regatta, the developer CNM Estates is hosting a hospitality marquee during the event, where 500 guests can enjoy champagne and lunch. There will be live music and an auction for charity to raise money in support of the rowing activities in Kingston.
